We're thrilled to announce that Bradford Producing Hub has been awarded funding by Arts Council England to lead an exciting new initiative that will put Bradford's grassroots music scene front and centre throughout the year.

Following Bradford 2025’s transformative year for the district, this major investment marks a significant step forward for grassroots music, building on growing recognition of Bradford’s diverse musical talent and creating the foundations for long-term growth and sustainability.

Running from January to September, this project will bring together the district’s diverse music community to co-create Bradford’s very first music strategy – a shared roadmap designed by and for local artists, venues, promoters, educators, and music lovers.

A strategy built by Bradford, for Bradford

This isn’t a top-down plan. We’re inviting everyone who’s part of Bradford’s vibrant music ecosystem to help shape the future. Through district-wide workshops, online surveys, and a dedicated steering group, the strategy will reflect the real voices, experiences and ambitions of our grassroots community.

The process will explore what makes Bradford’s music scene special, identify the challenges we face together, and set out clear priorities and practical actions to support talent development, venue sustainability, and sector growth.

Celebrating with live music

The project will culminate in September 2026 with a series of live performances across grassroots venues, alongside a central launch event that showcases the incredible breadth of musical talent Bradford has to offer. Young people aged 18 to 25 will also have the opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience through paid professional placements, supported by experienced mentors.

Building a stronger, more connected music scene

At the heart of this project are three key aims: strengthening pathways for emerging talent, increasing collaboration and resilience across the sector, and growing diverse audiences for live music. We’ll be learning from other music cities while staying true to Bradford’s unique identity and building on the momentum of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.

The strategy will be endorsed by Bradford Council, West Yorkshire Music Hub and regional partners, ensuring it becomes a working document that supports real change. And partnerships with regional bodies, including WYCA, UK Music, and Great North Creative, will be nurtured.

Bursaries and access support will be available throughout to make sure everyone who wants to be involved can take part.

Get involved

Whether you’re a musician, a venue owner, a promoter, an educator, or simply someone who loves live music, we invite you to help shape Bradford’s musical future. We’ll be sharing more details about workshops and how to get involved in the new year.

This project is funded by the Arts Council England Supporting Grassroots Music programme.
