Extracurricular: Creating a Music Tech Rider with Ben Pugh, 30 November 4pm-6pm on Zoom

Getting the right information to your venues and promoters makes all the difference in helping them know what to expect, provide you with the right equipment and make sure your gig goes smoothly.

Extracurricular: Creating a Music Tech Rider with Ben Pugh is a tailored online session for musicians, artists and bands who are newer to gigging and touring. It will help you get to grips with how to provide the right information about your set-up and technical requirements to venues and promoters.  It will also be a chance to ask general questions about tech equipment and set-up with a highly experienced production manager, Ben Pugh.

Ben will kick-off the session by talking you through a Music Tech Rider template that he has created.  This will cover everything you need to include to make sure you have a Rider that’s professional, easy to understand and works for you and your venue.  You’ll get a copy of the template to keep, so that you can use it for all your gigs and tours in future.

There’ll then be a question and answer session where you can ask him all your burning questions around music tech. This could be things like good set-ups for home recording, ways of using lighting on stage or tips for first time gigs – or whatever you need to know.

Ben Pugh

For 25 years I’ve been providing comprehensive management infrastructure for projects, productions, festivals, and events in the creative and cultural industries. I work across disciplines in theatre, music, visual arts, festival, digital, community and education.

As a cultural sector practitioner, my credits include major public events such as the Bradford Mela & Festival, Illuminating York, The York Mystery Plays and the PRSF New Music Biennale. I’ve been fortunate to have worked on some amazing projects – everything from establishing an international puppetry festival, to creating a high end studio ceramics exhibition, to delivering a city-wide, site specific theatre project, to helping artists and academics recreate the acoustics of a long ruined abbey – live in the footprint where the building stood.

I have commissioned and delivered work in a wide range of settings – from the Mumbai streets to New York; encompassing public parks, heritage sites, theatres, museums, galleries, town squares, botanical gardens; everything from rugged moors to NCP car-parks. Having worked with numerous different organisations running a huge variety of projects, I’ve built up a clear picture of how to create meaningful engagement, what makes a successful project and what is viable with the available resources.
