Play Days with Told by an Idiot 1 April 2022 9.30am to 4.30pm

Latest News, News

BPH is delighted to team up with the infamous Told by an Idiot to host another exciting, fun filled Play Days! Moments where creative people from all disciplines come together to explore, share fun and food, and inspire one another.

Play Days are for any creative person living or working in Bradford.

WHEN: Friday 1 April, 9.30am-4.30pm

WHERE: Delius Arts and Cultural Centre, 29 Great Horton Rd, Bradford BD7 1AA

You must register your interest below, by 25 March.  We will then select 12 participants at random. We expect a high demand for Play Days, so will try our best to accommodate people on at least one of the events.

Play Days are free and lunch and refreshments are provided.

Note: Play Days are in-person  events in locations across Bradford – hurray! We’re sorry that it won’t be practical to join in a Play Day online.

We do encourage people to take a LFT test before attending to reduce the spread of COVID, particularly for our freelancers! We also encourage participants to do what you are comfortable with regarding masks and social distancing, and ask anyone who feels unwell on the day to stay at home.

If you have any concerns or questions, just let us know

Bursaries, Access Costs and Travel

We can provide bursaries, access and travel costs to enable you to attend Play Days! Please let us know in the registration form.

We do not means-test or ask you to prove that you need  financial support, but we need to agree in advance what costs we will cover (wherever possible), and may ask you to provide receipts to claim costs back from us.

Bursaries are a contribution towards your time to help you attend when you might otherwise be working. You can claim £50 per day.

Access Costs are for additional costs you have to pay to enable you to attend, things that other people might not have to cover, such as disability support, translation, or childcare. If you have any access needs to take part, please get in touch straight away to tell us what you need and we will do our best to support you.

Travel Costs are to help you with the costs of travel to our events, using public transport.  We can reimburse your travel costs for the sessions on standard class public transport (bus or train) – you will have to provide us with a receipt, so please keep hold of this. If you need to take a taxi, please get in touch with us as we’ll need to approve this in advance.

The Workshop

The workshop consists of a range of engaging, practical exercises that give participants a taste of our unique approach to making theatre. Designed to create a healthy atmosphere of creative chaos in the workshop space, it encourages participants to think differently about devising, including the use of restrictions to spark creativity and using artistic provocations to encourage the ensemble to take creative risks and draw on the collective imagination.

The Facilitators

Told by an Idiot explores the human condition through theatre that is ambitious, but never pretentious, experimental, but always accessible and we avoid boredom at all costs. We are fascinated by the space between laughter and pain and we consistently experiment with what theatre can be and who gets to make it. In doing so our work blurs the line between theatre maker, participant and audience. We nurture the skills and talents of emerging theatre makers and our work excludes no one. It stimulates and challenges people across the world and we remain committed to making theatre for anyone who breathes.
