We are delighted to announce that Peg Alexander (she/her) has been appointed as the Independent Chair of The Bradford Way. Supported by the Arts Council England’s Place Partnership Project Fund, The Bradford Way is our two-year strategic investment programme transforming Bradford’s arts and culture through collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity.
Peg is an award-winning broadcaster, presenter, journalist, and consultant with deep roots in both Bradford and Leeds. She has dedicated her career to supporting communities, arts organisations, and cultural initiatives, making her an ideal fit for this role. As the founding Director of Bradford City of Film, Peg played a pivotal role in developing its strategy and brand, work that continues to shape the district’s cultural landscape today. She was instrumental in shaping Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture’s journey, contributing to early conversations that laid the groundwork for the City of Culture bid.
Her extensive experience includes strategic consultancy for networks, partnerships, and organisations across West Yorkshire and beyond, alongside a rich background in broadcasting. A freelance BBC journalist and regular contributor to national media, Peg has a unique ability to bring voices to the forefront – whether in the media or within the cultural sector. Her work in community leadership includes serving as interim CEO and Trustee at Bradford Citizens Advice and Law Centre, as well as managing debt services to support vulnerable communities.
In her role as Independent Chair, Peg will support The Bradford Way consortium, comprising Bradford Metropolitan District Council, Bradford Producing Hub, the Bradford Cultural Voice Forum, and The Leap to ensure equitable decision-making, embed collaborative approaches, and maximise the long-term impact of the project. Her leadership will be crucial in ensuring that The Bradford Way is strategically positioned within Bradford and West Yorkshire, while also fostering a culture of inclusion, innovation, and sustainability.
Speaking about her appointment, Peg said:
“I’ve worked both strategically on the role of culture in Bradford and as a creative myself, supporting many arts organisations. My experience as the founding director of Bradford City of Film is particularly relevant here. I’ve spent my career giving people and communities a voice – whether as a campaigner, a leader, a consultant, or a journalist and broadcaster. I am proud to be part of this creative community, and this role allows me to bring all my skills, experience, and connections together to support The Bradford Way’s vision for the future.”
Lisa Mallaghan, Exec. Director of Bradford Producing Hub said:
“We’re so pleased to have Peg on board as Independent Chair of The Bradford Way. She knows Bradford’s cultural scene inside out and brings a brilliant mix of strategic thinking, creativity, and passion. With her leadership, we can make sure this investment creates a real and lasting impact for our creative communities.”
We look forward to working with Peg as we continue to develop and deliver The Bradford Way, ensuring that Bradford’s cultural sector thrives for years to come.
