PROPEL has connected emerging talent with top festivals, theatres, and performance companies across the North for over two years. For 2025, we’ve partnered with some exciting new hosts in Bradford and West Yorkshire, offering five hands-on paid placements in production, producing, and programming.

We’re excited to have partnered with Spin Arts to offer a unique opportunity for an early-career Bradford content creator to undertake a 24-day paid placement working as a Digital Content & Social Media Creator. You will liaise with artists and participants to create high-quality photo and video content for the Spin Arts project, RIDE – a rap, dance and music show celebrating BD4 and Gypsy and Traveller communities.

Founded in 2010, the company has produced award-winning and critically acclaimed international touring productions that appear in theatres, libraries, galleries, community centres, and outdoor festivals. Based in Bradford, Spin Arts places particular emphasis on work created with Gypsy and Traveller communities and has a track record of supporting artists whose work has received national recognition. In addition to producing, Spin Arts contributes to sector-wide development through strategic partnerships and participation in national and regional initiatives.

About the placement

This role is ideal for someone looking to build a strong portfolio and gain valuable experience through working on a focused, high-profile project. While there are key deliverables to meet, there is also ample scope for creativity and flexibility to tailor the work according to the candidate’s unique skills and strengths. We warmly encourage applications from those who may only partially meet the specification or have limited formal experience, but have demonstrated their ability by building their own social media following.

The placement will take place over the schedule below and the host has some flexibility to accommodate the needs of the successful candidate. 

Schedule:

Placement dates: 4 August – 28 September 2025:

  • Week commencing: Monday 4 August
    Initial planning and induction
    2.5 days
  • Monday 11 August – Sunday 14 September (5 weeks)
    2.5 days per week 
  • Week commencing: Monday 15 September

  • Week commencing: Monday 22 September
    Final edits/wrapping up

Working flexibly alongside the project team, the Digital Content & Social Media Creator will document and share the journey of the RIDE project, a show made via a series of community engagements and an intensive rehearsal process that will result in 3 indoor performances taking place at the T.F.D. Centre in Holmewood on the 19 – 20 September 2025. 

Working with the Producer and Marketing Coordinator, the candidate will:

  • Capture high-quality photo/video content of performances, workshops, and behind-the-scenes  activity throughout the programme
  • Liaise with artists and participants to record short interviews or testimonials, where appropriate
  • Create engaging, on-brand content for use across Spin Arts’ and their partners’ social media channels
  • Edit and prepare content for regular posting, working with the Marketing Manager to schedule and share updates
  • Organise and archive media assets for future use and reporting
  • Be a visible and friendly presence at events, capturing the energy and atmosphere of the project in an authentic and respectful way
  • Support the visibility of the RIDE project by helping to grow its online reach and audience engagement

You are eligible for the PROPEL work placement programme if:

  • You have a demonstrable connection to Bradford
  • You will be 18 years old or over when the placement starts
  • You are committed to pursuing a career in content creation
  • You are proactive and eager to learn and make the most of this opportunity
  • You are ready to get involved and get hands-on as part of the host organisation’s team
  • You are organised with your time and able to follow instructions 
  • You have access to your equipment, suitable for capturing high-quality content, including editing tools (we can discuss equipment support where necessary)
  • You can fully commit to this opportunity and are available for the key dates listed above (if you can do the majority, but there are a couple of dates that you can’t do, please speak to us as there may be some flexibility in these cases)

The selection process is as follows:

  • If your application is shortlisted, you will be interviewed by the host organisation and BPH together – the interview will last no more than 60 minutes and we will keep this as relaxed as possible
  • If you are offered a placement, you’ll have a kick-off meeting with BPH and the host organisation to confirm dates and the placement details
  • BPH will issue you with a freelance contract and confirm how and when your fee will be paid
  • The host organisation will contact you to arrange the welcome and induction process

FAQs

You will be paid a freelance fee of £150 per day for 24 days. That’s £3,600 in total. 

You will have a freelance contract with Bradford Producing Hub, and we will arrange to pay you the fee. You will be responsible for paying any tax or National Insurance due as part of it. (If you are new to freelancing, we can help you understand this.)

Yes, we can provide support to meet your access needs, and there is budget available towards travel, as well as for accommodation if occasional overnight stays are required.

There will be an online information session (date above) where the host organisations will talk about what they do and their placement.

However, you should also do your own research about them by looking at their websites and social media feeds to familiarise yourself.

Yes, but you will only be offered one place. If you apply for multiple, we will make a decision on what we think would be the best fit. Please be aware however, that there are staggered application dates for some placements.
