Behind the Scene is an ongoing series from Bradford Producing Hub that allows Bradford's performance makers to observe rehearsals and R&D processes.
Next in our Behind the Scene series is a 2-3 day observation placement with Tutti Frutti during R&D of a refresh of their family show, Hare and Tortoise by Brendan Murray.
Placement dates:
- 10 and 11 March 2025 (open to all)
- 12 March 2025 (open to candidates with a DBS certificate)
Placement times:
9.30 AM – 5.30 PM or 10 AM – 6 PM TBC
Placement locations:
Leeds, venues TBC
Two unlikely friends, the Hare and the Tortoise, meet for the greatest race on earth and a third character, Time, watches over them -moving the year on. This adaptation of Aesop’s fable about friendship, opposites, and growing up includes live music, songs and movement.
Through the R&D, Tutti Frutti will explore how they can take their past production and develop it in adding a 3rd character, new songs, new design elements and ideas. The play starts in spring, moves through a playful summer, and concludes in the frost of winter.
Hare and the Tortoise is touring the UK Autumn 2025, and the USA in 2026 for children aged 3+.
The successful participants will join Tutti Frutti on the following dates:
- Monday 10 March 2025 in Leeds
- Tuesday 11 March 2025 in Leeds
The following date is optional dependent on if the candidate has an existing DBS certificate, as it takes place in a school:
- Wednesday 12 March 2025 – in a school in Leeds
Sessions are from 9.30/10.00 AM until 5.30/6.00 PM each day.
Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Aged 18 years and over
- Actively making live performance relevant to the placement, or returning to making work after a break
and - Live in or make work in the Bradford district
or - Have a strong and demonstrable connection to the District and are likely to make work here that will benefit local creatives
The venues are still TBC and we will confirm this information asap.
To make the registration simple and the selection process fair, we allocate places through a ballot.
How the ballot process works:
- You enter the ballot via a simple registration form linked below
- After the deadline, we enter all eligible registrations into a ballot
- We select a participant through a random selection process
- We inform all applicants of the outcome the week following the closing date
We will pay everyone a bursary of £75 per day to participate in this placement, a total of £225 for the 3 days.
We will also reimburse any travel costs so please keep your receipts. For placements outside of Bradford, we can pre-book trains in advance on your behalf.
If you require financial support towards access costs, we will send you a form to detail these requirements on your offer of a place. Access costs might include childcare or other caring costs, interpretation costs such as BSL or other language support, access worker costs, or other access costs.
