Calling all Bradford artists and makers, and visual arts freelancers, producers, curators, programmers and professionals!
Our laid-back quarterly artist socials are hosted by our Visual Arts Instigator, Alison McIntyre and we’d love to see you there!
Each of our socials takes on a unique theme and the focus of June’s event will be on participatory and community arts. We’ll receive updates from Bradford Producing Hub and our hosts at South Square Centre and then make a collaborative piece of art together. Plenty at the South Square Centre will serve a delicious vegetarian tagine to fuel the event.
There will also be the usual materials swap table for any arts and crafts materials you no longer need, a needs and offers board, and lots of time to connect with and talk with one another.
This event is for all visual artists from Bradford to explore new opportunities, make new connections and be part of a growing visual arts network as we get ready for Bradford 2025!

Complete a Bradford Visual Arts Network card
If you’re attending our Bradford Visual Arts Socials, you’re invited to fill out our Visual Arts Network card. These will be displayed at our events to help break those awkward introductions by seeing who’s there and who you might like to approach for a chat.
You can now also view an online version of our Bradford Visual Arts Network board.
About the venue
South Square Centre
Renovated as a community arts centre in 1982, South Square Centre is a collection of 19th Century worker’s cottages, in the old Yorkshire village of Thornton and now home to ten studio spaces for a variety of artists, as well as a gallery, community spaces, archive, fine art framers, bar and a cafe.
The centre can be accessed via public transport from Bradford City Centre via the 607 bus route. On-street parking is available at South Square.
All spaces which we will be using for this event are fully accessible.
Meet the artist
Sophie Smith
The artwork commissioned for this event has been created by Sophie Smith. Sophie is a Bradford-based mixed media abstract artist.
The artwork for this event draws together Sophie’s beautiful response to these events including; coming together in a community circle, the building blocks of support from the BPH family, standing together, and how people’s lives stitch together and paths cross.
