FAQs

Career stages are hard to quantify as they look different for everyone. Essentially, as long as you meet the criteria listed in the ‘Who the Music Development Day is for‘ section above and you feel you would benefit from the development day – we want to hear from you!

If it’s more accessible for you to make your application by submitting a video or audio file, you are welcome to do so. Please email your application to hello@bdproducinghub.co.uk by the deadline.

Here are some guidance notes for submitting your application via email:

  • Please use the subject line ‘Music Development Day application submission‘.
  • Please attach, or link to, an audio/video application of no more than around 5 minutes in length. This should answer all the questions detailed in the ‘What are the application questions?’ FAQ below.
  • In the email, please include the following information:
    • Your full name
    • Your email address
    • Your telephone number
    • Your full postcode
    • Your connection to Bradford
    • A statement confirming you meet all of the eligibility requirements
    • Whether you have any access requirements we need to consider when communicating with you, or when handling your application (you’re welcome to upload an access rider too)

To help you to prepare your application in advance, here are the main questions asked in the application form:

  • What is your connection to Bradford?
  • Do you go by an artist name that’s different to your own?
  • If you have any social links you’d like to share with us please provide them here.
Please only provide links you’re happy for us to share/tag you in. This might include Instagram, TikTok, Spotify, Soundcloud etc.

Tell us about your genre, style, any instruments you play or kit you use, influences, inspiration, who you work with etc.

  • Can you name a few artists you might liken your style to?
  • Can you tell us a bit about your experience as a musician?
Please provide links to your tracks, videos, performances etc.
    (1-2 paragraphs)
  • Have you previously developed a release strategy for your music, what did this include? What have you done so far towards working with an A&R?
These things are not essential for our Music Development Day, but it’s useful for us to know your experience in these areas to ensure the day is useful for you.
    (1-2 paragraphs)
  • What goals would you like to achieve with your next release?
  • In what ways do you hope the Music Development Day might benefit your creative development?

We will first assess applications against our eligibility criteria. We’re looking to select applicants who will gain the most from the Music Development Day and represent a range of backgrounds.

Some things we will consider when assessing your application include:

  • Are you at the right stage in your music career? I.e. You’re unsigned or signed to a small label and independently making or producing music?
  • What impact might the day have on your career?
  • Do your expectations of the day match what you will get out of the day?
  • Do you have enough material to share in the Playback Sessions?

Strong applications will demonstrate these areas clearly in the application submission.

If you need a bursary to cover your time, you will be invited to complete a bursary form upon your offer of a place. We offer bursaries of £75 for full-day development activities such as this.

To enable us to support as many artists as possible through our programmes, bursaries should only be requested if this is something you need, for example, if you are freelance or required to take unpaid leave to participate in the activity.

To apply for this funding, please complete a Bursary & Access Fund form once you have made your application.

Yes, we will cover your travel costs to Wakefield from Bradford. For this Music Development Day, we plan to travel to Wakefield together by train.

Yes, we can cover any other access costs that may otherwise present a barrier to you being able to participate in the activity. Access costs include things like childcare and other caring costs; BSL, language and other interpretation costs; as well as access support workers, or any other access costs you might face.

To apply for this funding, please complete a Bursary & Access Fund form once you have made your application.
