A development programme for artists, directors, producers and creatives who are new to outdoor arts

Bradford Producing Hub has partnered with the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council to fund five places for Bradford artists on the Without Walls Discover Programme.

The Without Walls Discover Programme provides opportunities for artists, directors, producers and creatives new to outdoor arts to learn more about what it means to create work for the outdoors.

What does the Discover programme provide?

Discover provides:

  • opportunities to find out about what is involved in creating and touring outdoor work
  • sessions with producers, directors, programmers and others working in outdoor arts
  • moments to meet other creatives, ask questions and explore ways to constructively develop your own practice or work
  • support to identify research and development needs with support from industry experts to progress your ideas

What can I expect?

This year’s programme will continue to be a combination of online and in-person learning, composed of:

Digital Discovery
A self-guided engagement with a number of recorded sessions and masterclasses exploring a range of topics, including:

  • Meet the Artists
  • Meet the Festivals
  • Meet the Producers
  • Meet the Strategic & Partner Organisations

Curated visits to outdoor festivals
Participants will have the opportunity to attend Ensemble Festival in London and Stockton International Riverside Festival in Stockton-on-Tees, with opportunities to discuss and reflect on the shows seen. These visits will also give the cohort the chance to meet with other artists and outdoor professionals.

Online reflection sessions and group discussions
Throughout the programme, the group will come together to reflect on their own practices and learning.

1-1 mentoring sessions
An opportunity to meet with a mentor matched with each participant’s particular needs and interests.

FAQs

Without Walls is offering a contribution of £250 for participants who may require financial support in order to take part in the programme. The bursary will support participants to remove any financial barriers and enable them to visit the festivals, covering their travel and/or accommodation costs. If this is something you require, please state this in your application form.

In addition to questions about your contact details and equality and diversity monitoring questions, the application form includes the following questions, which you can submit via text in the form or by linking to a video or audio file.

  • Please describe your company/work and indicate whether you have created outdoor work before.
  • Please tell us briefly what you are hoping to gain from taking part in the Without Walls Discover Programme and how it may support the development of your practice.

The application also requires:

  • Your 300-word biography
  • A headshot portrait image to be uploaded (this is not to be used for selection, but to showcase successful applicants on their website
  • Links to social media accounts you would like to be tagged in
